THE EVALUATION

THE EVALUATION PROCESS

 

The participants could enter the Competition by completing the Competition entry form located at www.empower.com.cy/entry.  They needed to submit a viable and innovative business proposal for an eCommerce website (online store).  This needed to include a brief description of the idea, CV of the Participants and a short analysis of the proposal (the need for web presence, marketing and sales ideas, originality of the concept, description and expectations of market size, expected return and degree of maturity of the idea).  Eligible Participants could enter the competition between 9 March 2015 and 5 April 2015.

 

The Evaluation Committee studied the participations and selected six finalists.  Criteria for judgment included the originality of the business proposal, the accuracy of the strategy development and its forecasted viability.  Next, the six finalists were invited to present their ideas and business proposal to the Evaluation Committee, on 28 April 2015.  Based on the finalists' presentations, the Evaluation Committee, on the same day, decided and ranked the three best submissions, awarding a first place prize, second place prize and third place prize.

Currently the Head of the Innovation and Idea Development Center at Cyta, Christos Christou holds a BSc in Marketing and Personnel management from Oklahoma State University, an MBA in Marketing and a Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

 

He has been in Cyta since 1991, serving various managerial positions such as the Head of Cytanet’s communications office, when the internet was still in its infancy, a member of the marketing team responsible for the successful launching of the Cyta Hellas company in Greece, the Head of the digital Tv platform Cytavision, responsible for all operations including but not limited to negotiating the additional channels on the platform, pricing and communication. As Product Communications Manager, he was responsible for the communication strategy and all promotional campaigns of Cyta’s services such as; Cytamobile Vodafone, Cytavision, Cytanet.

 

Evangelos started his career in the IT consultancy services, continued in teaching information management in higher education institutions and ended up in the banking sector.  He evolved as the Manager of the electronic channels of Laiki Bank.  He went on to materialise his vision of “doing it for yourself” and became a freelance eBusiness consultant and subsequently co-founded Qmmerce in 2014.

 

He is now helping companies save money, maximize their return on investment and achieve growth by implementing successful eBusiness strategies.

 

He holds a degree in Business Administration and an MBA, specialised in Management Information Systems.  He has a Diploma in Marketing and he is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Chartered Management Institute.  He is also a Project Management Professional (PMP®).

Paris obtained a First Class BA (Hons) in Accounting & Finance from the Manchester  Metropolitan University. He graduated ranking first from his University after being awarded a number of prizes for Excellence from the University, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. He is Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales  (ICAEW), and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC)

 

Paris is an assurance Board Member of KPMG Cyprus, with significant experience in the audit and tax compliance of financial statements in accordance with IFRS, consolidated financial statements of multinational Groups and strong experience in business and Financial Advisory Services (FAS). His consulting experience ranges from valuations, feasibility studies, taxation and consultancy projects to special forensic  investigation engagements on public listed companies, and large private organizations.

 

Paris has been involved in a variety of local and international projects and his portfolio of clients include clients in the Diversified Industrials sector, Energy & Natural Resources, Finance Sector, Retail, Transportation and Aviation, Building and Construction, Travel, Leisure and Tourism, Investment Management, IT, Manufacturing, Breweries and Internet.

Andreas Hadjioannou holds a BSc in Computer Science and Engineering and is the Managing Director of Virtual IT, an IT company with office in Cyprus and UAE.

 

Andreas has more than 30 years’ experience in managing multiple and interrelated IT projects and teams, involving innovative solutions, business re-engineering and adaptability to new standards and techniques.  Experience includes Government and private sector projects involving e-Business, e-Government, development and management of IT strategies, e-Commerce Strategy for e-Commerce for Cyprus, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems and Systems Integration.

 

Andreas has been involved in EU ICT research and development since 2001 in the areas of e-Business, e-Learning, e-Inclusion, Interoperability, Collaboration and Mobility and generally project which foster innovation and growth through the use of Information Technologies and Communications (ICT).

Mr. Neophytos Karamanos graduated in 1986 from Washington University in St. Louis, USA with Bachelor degrees in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. He then obtained a Masters degree from the same university in the area of Data Communications (1987) and an MBA from Henley Management College (2004). He also attended CIIM’s Executive Leadership Program (2006-2007).

 

Mr. Karamanos joined IBM in 1988 where he worked for 8 years as a systems engineer and project manager in numerous engagements with emphasis in the banking sector. In 1996 he joined Laiki Bank where he worked on a number of projects mostly in the area of electronic banking before he was appointed Director of Information Technology in 2000. In December, 2009 he assumed the post of the  General Manager of JCC Payment Systems.

Marios Loucaides is a graduate of the University of London in the field of Mathematics and Physics and of the Oxford University with a Masters in Mathematical Logic.

 

After 12 years in the IT industry, he was appointed as the General Manager of CTC-Argosy in 1994 and in 2000 he was promoted to General Manager of CTC.  In 2003 he assumed the duties currently held, as Managing Director of CTC.

 

In this role he served in various positions in corporate boards, associated with the group, such as, Chairman of the board of CTC-ARI (airport commercial stores) and Cyprus Airport F&B (restaurants at airports). He is currently a member of the Board of HOB and Scandia.  He is also Chairman of the Audit Committee for Viewership Research, President of the Self-regulatory Control Body, treasurer of ECR Cyprus and served for four years as President of the Cyprus Federation of Advertisers. He was for twenty years a member of the Toastmasters group.

He is a graduate of London school of Economics with a BSc (Econ) in Accounting and Finance.  During his studies he was awarded a British Commonwealth scholarship and later awarded a British Council Fellowship.

 

He started his career with the London office of KPMG in the business advisory division for financial institutions, mainly working for global financial institutions based in London where he obtained his ACA qualification with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.  He then moved to consulting, within the same firm, specialising in risk management consulting again for financial institutions.

 

After five years in London and following his repatriation in Cyprus in 1995, he was employed by the Laiki Group and worked for its international business division. Initially, his main duties included various projects both local and overseas relating with the development of the Group's subsidiaries abroad, as well as, its wholesale banking division in Cyprus. He was then transferred to set up and head the Group Risk Management Division of the Laiki Group up until his employment with Eurobank EFG Cyprus in early 2008, as a General Manager - Chief Operations Officer.

Dr. George Pamboridis studied law in Athens and then went on to get a Masters degree (LL.M.) from the University of Southampton in Shipping law. Following this he received an M.Sc from the International Relations Department of London School of Economics and then a Ph.D in law from the University of Southampton in Public International and Shipping law.

 

He is the author of the book "International Shipping Law: Legislation and Enforcement" published by Kluwer Law International, the book «Hydrocarbons of the Republic of Cyprus» released in September 2012, and of numerous legal articles.

 

Pamboridis is qualified in Cyprus (Member of the Cyprus Bar Association), Greece (Member of the Athens Bar Association) and England & Wales (Roll of Solicitors). He has worked for the City law firm of Holman, Fenwick & Willan before joining L. Papaphilippou & Co in Nicosia as a Partner for five years. Since 2003 he started up Pamboridis LLC with offices in Nicosia and Athens. Pamboridis is a corporate lawyer dealing mostly with matters related to M&As, corporate law, international tax planning, but also Energy law. His extensive shipping background ranks him as one of the leading lawyers in matters of International Shipping regulation. He is currently also teaching International Shipping Law and Energy Law at the University of Cyprus.

 

Olympios Toumazou

Olympios Toumazou studied economics, with graduate option in Finance and Accounting at the University of WLU in Canada.  He started his professional career with MEMRB International where he specialised in market research surveys for the consumer and industrial sectors.  He was also in charge of Customer Services for the Retail Audits.

 

 In 1988 he was employed by the multinational company Procter & Gamble where he served as Marketing Manager for the Persian Gulf countries and Category Manager for the Arabian Peninsula.  In 1991 he returned to Cyprus and worked as Sales & Marketing Manager for the chartered airline company Eurocypria, belonging to Cyprus Airways.   He is a founding shareholder of RAI Consultants Ltd, of which he is the President of the Board of Directors since the foundation of the company in 1995.

 

Olympios Toumazou is an active member of ESOMAR (European Society of Opinion and Market Research) and he is a regular speaker at marketing and strategy conferences.  He also publishes articles in the areas of Continuous Research, Retail Management and Marketing.  He is considered an expert in the field of Retail Audits in emerging markets having established and set-up Retail Audit services in more than 16 countries.  He also provides consultancy services for major retailers and distributors of FMCG’s.
